The best Conan Exiles roleplay builds will help you find a solid foundation for your character. You can build upon this to create a roleplay character that you can do justice to or use the base and let it naturally unfold.
One of my biggest tips for creating a character build in Conan Exiles is making one in Dungeons and Dragons. Fill out a sheet for a character you are never going to play in D&D and use that to create one in Conan Exiles.
This isn’t necessary, but it can help. If you don’t want to or don’t know how to create a character sheet, then forget it and wing it. The point is to have fun with the character you build.
Top Five Best Conan Exiles Roleplay Builds
Title | Character | Base | Gear | Attributes | Crimes(examples) |
Farmer | They live off the land; it’s their primary personality trait. | Plenty of crop plots and a barn. | Light armor that keeps their temperature even. | Grit and strength. |
|
Thief | They steal, and they know things. | Hidden. | Light armor with face mask. | Agility and Expertise |
|
Beast Tamer | You like animals. | Animal pens, large house with room for animals. | Either fur or anti-fur/leather. | Authority |
|
The Devoted | The perfect religious zealot. | Everyone shall know who your god is. | Your god’s gear from the altar. | Vitality and grit | Depends on your god. |
Here for a Good Time | They want to party, that is all. | Something fun and exciting but not too much work. | Light armor with cool vibes, like the Dancer sets. | Agility and Grit |

The Easiest Roleplay in Conan Exiles
There is a quick cheat for easy roleplay in Conan Exiles. All you have to do is choose a faction. Not a religion, a faction. For example, say you choose Black Hand, making you a pirate.
You can base your entire build on this. Grab some Black Hand Garb, get a broken bottle, and throw some Demon-fire Orbs. You can even read up on the lore to really immerse yourself in the background; it’s so easy.
Conan Exiles Character Ideas with Roleplay Build
There are endless characters you can make in Conan Exiles. But my goal here is to give you a base to build your character on, sort of like a template that you can customize but is still viable to keep as it is without fleshing it out.
Farmer: It Ain’t Much, But It’s Honest Work
The farmer is an easy build that can be a blast to get into. The whole build is built using planters to grow your own plants and animal pens to raise animals. But, of course, every farmer has a hidden fighting spirit.
Character
The farmer character’s personality isn’t important, but if you need tips, consider being chill yet focused on getting things done. They are probably introverted, but when they talk, people listen.
Attributes
The perks and stats of a farmer will be what they have learned throughout their journey working the land. Farms are strong, agile, and have a ton of grit. But really, there isn’t an attribute that you don’t improve when you work on a farm.
Base
Farmer bases should consist of a simple house, workshop, barn, and crops. Here’s a cool stables build from Eradicati0n that you can make with the Riders of Hyboria DLC. Or use it as inspiration for the vanilla version.
Gear
The Vanir set for northern farmers or the Blackwater/Black Corsair for fancier farmers are my go-tos. But the Coarse set is fairly accurate for lower-class farmers. For weapons, I recommend something that the farmer made himself. This could be like a Goat Horn bow or a scythe (top pick.)
Crimes
Farmer crimes tend to be something like singing bawdy ballads or drunken brawling because we all know farmers have crazy weekends. The crimes of a farmer are usually mild, but a surprise murder can really spice up the farmer’s life.
Thief: Rogue, Ninja, Whatever You Want to Call It
I know that all of these titles refer to a different character, but let’s face it, we just rotate the names in games. This is the dagger-wielding, mask-wearing sneaky character, and my personal favorite most of the time.
Character
The thief doesn’t have to be a “bad guy.” After all, Robin Hood was a thief. The point of this build is to focus on making money and using stealthy weapons. You may even avoid combat.
Attributes
Thieves must focus on Agility and Expertise. They can be strong, but putting too many points in Strength is pointless when planning on going lightweight. I choose Expertise because it reminds me of lockpicking and checking for traps.
Base
The base of a thief will be well-hidden and practical, though it may have purely fun secrets. A base spot that is good for PvP will be perfect for the thief. Check out hidden base spots for inspiration.
Gear
This is an easy choice. Choose any daggers or a bow. Then for clothing, the Relic Hunter is for well-established thieves, while the Skelos set is for the ones who are less diplomatic. If you want the perfect middle ground, the Zamorian Thief set is excellent and is my favorite base set in the game as far as looks go.
Crimes
Crimes for thieves are super straightforward. They will cheat and steal, but whether they murder needlessly is up to you. My thief is usually a pacifist but will fight back if they get themself into a pickle.
Ultimate Hero: And I Love You, Random Citizen
The ultimate hero to me isn’t perfect, but they are the picturesque protagonist that usually has good intentions. They may fall victim to capitalism and prejudice of the times, but they shine bright like a star, and their words are written on walls.
Character
The ultimate hero thinks they are the bomb diggity, whether anyone else agrees. They really won’t notice if anyone agrees because they assume everyone thinks a lot of them. Yes, they are a narcissist.
Attributes
Strength, Authority, and Vitality are imperative. They must be strong and appear strong, sleeping in light armor and brushing their hair every night before bed. Building the character in your mind helps narrow down the attributes you choose.
Base
The base of the ultimate hero is out in the open and magnificent. Building a castle is a good way to go, but if you want something that helps you connect better with the peasants, then a mansion will do.
Gear
The Arena Champion’s armor is ideal for the ultimate hero. However, Silent Legion and Godbreaker are acceptable. If you prefer something personable, then Stygian Soldier or Lemurian is a little more low-key. Weapons aren’t as important as long as they are shiny, but strength weapons should take priority.
Crimes
The crimes of the ultimate hero go unpunished. Everything that they did was a misunderstanding in their eyes. They may have incited a riot, defiled a sanctum, or broken a pink promise, but it wasn’t their fault.
The Exile: What Am I Doing Here? I Don’t Belong Here
The exile is like the Wretch on Elden Ring. It’s a blank slate for you to play with based solely on the plot of Conan Exiles. You can really play off this because it’s what the game is about.
Character
The exile lives as a hermit who travels around for a place to call home. You may find yourself as a nomad who doesn’t trust anyone. The personality is up to you, but I usually go with fed up with the world but willing to offer a helping hand to those in need.
Attributes
Attributes are highly customizable for the exile. But since they travel often and live off the land, agility and vitality are good choices. Things like authority just don’t make sense, but everything else is in-between.
Base
You don’t have a permanent base, or at least not a fancy one. You may need a workshop for practical reasons, but otherwise, I think using a tent is the best way to get into the roleplay aspect.
Gear
Exiles keep a low profile, so something inconspicuous is necessary, which means nothing too high-end or nor raggedy. Zingaran Freebooter, Cimmerian Fur, and Cimmerian Steel are my top choices. Weapons are more lenient, but I recommend a one-handed sword.
Crimes
Crimes of an exile can be anything because the class is the blank slate. You may want to choose something you feel bitter about but keep quiet. Perhaps the Ultimate Hero framed you for their crime, and you took the fall.
The Devoted: All Hail the Mighty Serpent
For some reason, every time I see a devoted build, they have pledged themself to Set. But you can use any religion. This is one of the easiest builds because you can use what is right in front of you after you build the altar.
Character
The devoted have one job, and that is to worship their god. So what you do and how you act should reflect the god you choose to follow. Mitra’s follower may be kind yet arrogant, while Set’s may be more villainous.
Attributes
Vitality and Grit are what I choose for this class because it really works with the life that your god gives you. You are on fire for your god, and you don’t care who knows it. You may even be passionate about conversions.
Base
The base of a devoted should have an altar and a home of any size. Derketo probably prefers you to build something grand and gold to worship him and enjoy the pleasures of life.
Gear
Gear is easy because you can make it in your altar, and you should. If you are seen in anything else, you should feel ashamed. This goes for the weapon and the clothing. You can branch out, but your god may be offended.
Crimes
The crimes should follow your god’s will as they are the reason you committed them. Pay attention to what your god wants and choose crimes accordingly. Some gods are violent, while others are pleasure-seekers.
Beast Tamer: Sick ‘Em, Moonshine
The beast tamer is a mountain man who has an array of pets at his base. This isn’t an animal tamer that you would find at Buccaneer Bay, but a trusted friend of all animals who probably hates humans.
Character
You love animals and keep them close. They are all that matters to you, and you are all that matters to them. You don’t “break” animals; you have a mutual understanding that you can benefit each other.
Attributes
Authority is the most important by far because it applies to pets. Everything else will depend on what weapons you use and what you do with your life when not raising your animals.
Base
Your base needs to have plenty of animal pens and a large enough house that at least your best buddy can sleep in there with you. Stables are good, but you probably think they are too confining.
Gear
Gear isn’t crucial, but there are two ways you can go with this. You can wear hunting gear like the Vanir or Hyena set, or you can be anti-leather and fur. Common weapons for this type is the spear, one-handed or two-handed.
Crimes
Crimes often relate to animals or not conforming to social norms. You probably disobeyed a priest who asked for an animal sacrifice or took part in gladiator matches to make money because you don’t have a job.
Perfect Alignment: The Fable Project
This reminds me of Fable because my first character in each game is always perfect in their choices. They aren’t the charismatic hero, but the one who does the right thing, no matter what anyone else thinks.
Character
You can do no wrong, but that’s not your perspective. You are self-aware (sometimes hard on yourself) and make each decision with great thought, usually choosing to follow your heart.
Attributes
Anything goes here. You may want strength to fight for the weak or expertise to carry your own weight. Authority is not something you want, but you may naturally have it as people want to follow you.
Base
A house is nothing unless it’s a home when you’re this character. Eradicati0n has some great small house builds that your character will love because modesty is all you want in a house. That and a fireplace.
Gear
You want to appear trustworthy by wearing something like Shemite, Aquilonian, or Dancer gear. You also don’t want a weapon with a dark history, or you won’t be able to bear to hunt or defeat evil with it.
Crimes
Your crimes must come from the heart and must be pure, such as freeing slaves. You may incite a riot or not use good punctuation, but that’s just because you get caught up in the moment of justice and mercy.
Evil Incarnate: Embrace the Horns
This is the opposite of the Perfect Alignment build. This one does evil for evil’s sake. You will have the most thralls, raid the most bases, and do everything you can to wreak havoc on the Exiled Lands.
Character
If you need an outlet for your anger, choose this evil. This allows you to do whatever you want without any consequences or guilt. Blame it all on your character’s personality. This may be risky, but it can be a blast.
Attributes
Authority and Expertise should be high. You have minions that you tell what to do, and if they misbehave, then begone with them. The only thing you won’t do is (insert random quirk here) because characters need depth.
Base
Your base shall instill fear into those who walk by. Torture devices should clutter the yard, and taxidermy of your biggest kills should decorate the walls. Now if only you could taxidermy humans.
Gear
If you put religion aside, you can wear something that feels renegade but also isn’t something to hide behind because, remember, you’re proud. The best for this are DLC sets, but the ones you can get in vanilla Conan are Voidforged Dragonhide, Lemurian Warrior, Stygian Raider, which all mix in mystery. When choosing a weapon, find something with a dark history.
Crimes
You are the worst and proud of it. There’s nothing on the crimes list that you haven’t done or isn’t on your bucket list. You’re evil because you want to be evil, not because society says what you do is evil.
Here for a Good Time: YOLO
This is the best build where I’m concerned. You don’t have any ill intentions towards anyone, but you don’t try to be good either. You’re not into religion or recognition; you want to live each day seeking joy and laughter, even at someone else’s expense.
Character
You just want to have fun. Everything you do is to seek a thrill. That doesn’t mean you don’t like to chill at home, but if you are, you’re not going to be spending your time farming or gathering herbs.
Attributes
Agility to keep you ready to party and Grit so nothing can get you down. Who needs authority? You wouldn’t want others to control you so why would you want to control others?
Base
Everything in your base makes you happy. You are either non-religious or you follow Derketo because you want to have fun, and that’s the best way to do so. Even if you follow Derketo, you probably have statues of other gods because you think they look cool.
Gear
Dancer gear is definitely the best, but you are flexible as long as you get a good vibe from the set. Sometimes a Dafari mask brings you joy. As for weapons, whatever you can get your hands on that feels good there is good with you.
Crimes
Did you punch a camel when you were drunk? Probably. Was it worth it? Yes. What I like most about this type of character is that you cannot get them down. They are here for whatever comes next.
FAQs
Question: What is the Best Roleplay Build in Conan Exiles?
Answer: There isn’t one. However, you can make being the best your goal in your build. So you play on being the protagonist, even in a server with other players.
Question: How Do You Have a Roleplay Clan?
Answer: This is tough because not everyone will play along. Some players may even collide, but if you want to make it work, you can. If players don’t get along or can’t agree on a theme, work that into the story.
Question: How Do I Become Confident Roleplaying?
Answer: This is difficult but possible for anyone. Start slow with an easy build that doesn’t talk much. One of the easiest ways to ease into it is to create a character that is similar to you.
To RP or Not to RP in Conan Exiles
This is completely up to you, though if you do roleplay, I recommend getting on a Roleplay Server. Otherwise, you may feel out of place and won’t be able to enjoy an immersive experience when no one else is roleplaying.
To find RP servers, check out this page, which will have info on each server tagged with “roleplaying” and a link to their Discord. So you can get to know the players before joining. This is the perfect method if you’re new to the concept and want to dip your toes in the waters of Conan Exiles roleplaying.
