Conan Exiles Serpent Venom Gland Guide – The Venom That Cures Everything!

I’m on team Indiana Jones regarding snakes–I do not like them. Unfortunately, Conan Exiles has several serpent enemies dotted throughout the Exiled Lands. Even worse, those serpents drop a valuable resource called snake venom glands.

These glands do everything from making a powerful cure-all to enabling you to tame high-tier pets. So, if you’re like mee, it’s time to face your fears and learn why slaying some snakes might be in your best interest.

Serpent Venom Gland – A Nightmarish Resource Every Exile Needs

Snakes come in all sizes across the Exiled Lands. You have the hapless cobra that wanders the desert biome, then the far more terrifying snake that slithers its way across the jungle biome. Despite the difference in size and lethality, both drop serpent venom glands when killed.

These glands are especially useful in making specific consumables. One of its most potent is the Violet Curative, which basically cures any ailment you might experience. If I run through or fight something that causes poison damage or even corruption, I will bring some Violet Curatives with me.

You might not think consuming serpent venom glands is wise, and you’d be right. At least, you shouldn’t consume them directly. Doing so will poison you and bring down your health. However, if you combine the serpent venom gland with other ingredients, then you can make some valuable consumables.

For example, you can make Stygian Liquor, essential for traveling through the hot desert. It’s also useful for those who worship Derketo. It enables you to craft honey in Derketo’s shrine. You can then use that honey to tame high-tier pets, among other things.

It’s possible to harvest serpent venom glands by killing three different types of serpents in Conan Exiles. They include the cobra, the snake, and the giant snake. After killing them, you can harvest them with a knife. Serpent venom glands are one of the resources they will drop.

It’s recognizable by its orange, sac-like, icon with a tooth attached. It’s possible to harvest quite a few from a single serpent, so it’s a good trade-off for going toe-to-toe with the slithering monsters.

Where to Get Serpent Venom Glands

Three creatures drop serpent venom glands. Each spawns in a different biome, and some are easier to kill than others. Let’s look at each creature to determine which you should hunt to start collecting serpent venom glands.

1. Cobra – The Smallest Serpent in the Exiled Lands

  • Creature Type: Predator
  • Temperament: Aggressive
  • Biome: Desert
  • Tameable: Yes

One of the easiest serpents to hunt and kill is the cobra. You’ll find it in the desert biome, which means the environment is the most challenging part of the hunt. You’ll face scorching temperatures and other dangerous creatures, like Reapers, that make this territory its home.

I always like to bring an extra waterskin while traveling through the desert. It’s also not a bad idea to bring a bed and place it somewhere safe in case something kills you on the way to some cobras.

The cobra is a small serpent, but you shouldn’t underestimate it. Its bite can still poison you. The last thing you want is to become weakened in an area filled with dangerous beasts. These are creatures best killed at range. Bring along a bow and some arrows to slaughter a bunch quickly.

Then, take your knife and harvest the cobras to gather their glands. If you spot any eggs, you can also take them home to tame them and have your own cobra pets.

2. Snake – Great Target Practice

  • Creature Type: Predator
  • Temperament: Aggressive
  • Biome: Jungle/Desert
  • Tameable: Yes

The next type of serpent that will drop venom glands is the snake. This serpent is one step below the most challenging creature, so I consider it good practice for that particular creature. And if your skin crawls the moment you see these guys out in the jungle biome, I don’t blame you–mine did, too.

They’re giant snakes that sit coiled up and will attack anything that comes too close. You can find them lurking around in the jungle biome and some regions of the desert biome. For example, if you plan to siege Al-Merayah, you can expect to find a few of them there.

While they may look terrifying, they’re pretty easy to kill. They only have one attack: to strike forward with their heads. Being bit isn’t ideal since they can give you the Poisoned status. So, I like using two methods to kill these serpents.

The first is to stay ranged. You can build a platform or get up high where the snake can’t reach you. Then, just shoot down with arrows or use sorcery to kill the snake while out of reach. Their wiggling bodies can make aiming difficult, so bring along a good number of arrows just in case.

If you’re not much of an archer, the second method is just to strafe in circles around the snake. It’s not the fastest creature, and since it only hits forward with its head, it’s easy to dodge and have it miss you while attacking it. Watch your stamina to ensure you don’t run out during a vital moment.

Once you’ve killed the snake, harvest it with a knife and gather serpent venom glands.

3. Giant Snake – Your Worst Nightmare

  • Creature Type: Legendary
  • Temperament: Aggressive
  • Biome: The Arena, Citadel of the Triumvirate (Unnamed City)
  • Tameable: No

If you want some serpent venom glands and don’t mind a challenge, you’ll want to hunt down the giant snake. It’s a terrifying, legendary, creature that only spawns in two areas–the Arena and the Citadel of the Triumvirate in the Unnamed City.

The Citadel giant snake is incredibly challenging because of its location. You’ll have to deal with corruption exposure, undead, and other dangerous creatures in the same area. Your health may already be low when you finally reach the giant snake.

If you plan on taking down the giant snake, ensure you’re equipped with plenty of healing consumables. You’ll also want some consumables that help remove corruption–or at least plan on taking some time to heal it after your fight.

The good news is that the giant snake behaves like the snake. It only strikes forward with its head. You can use the same methods to fight snakes and the giant snake. The Arena favors ranged fighting, while the Citadel favors strafe fighting, but you can mix them up if you feel confident.

You might wonder why you should go for the giant snake when the snake and cobra are easier to kill. The giant snake, since it’s a legendary creature, happens to drop a skeleton key. You can use the key to open legendary chests to receive legendary-grade weapons and armor.

So, if you’re hunting for serpent venom glands and legendary items, hunting down giant snakes can kill two birds with one stone.

What do Serpent Venom Glands do in Conan Exiles

If you’re not a fan of snakes like me, you might wonder if gathering serpent venom glands is worth the jump-scare. The glands are vital ingredients for four different craftables.

They include:

  • Violet Curative
  • Stygian Liquor
  • Ichor
  • Honey

Here’s a quick look at each item you can make with serpent venom glands in Conan Exiles.

1. Violet Curative – The Brew That Cures Everything

  • Crafting Station: Alchemist’s Bench
  • Ingredients: 10 Serpent Venom Glands
  • Effect: Cures Poisoned

The violet curative is a go-to consumable to cure the poisoned status effect. Considering you will be hunting down poisonous creatures to harvest serpent venom glands in the first place, this particular consumable is helpful for that hunt. I always have a handful of violet curatives on me when hunting snakes.

You can craft the violet curative in the Alchemist’s Bench or any of its upgraded tiers. It requires 10 serpent venom glands, so you may need to kill a few cobras to gather the required number. The good news is that you only need 10 glands to craft it. The curative doesn’t require any other ingredient.

When consuming the curative while poisoned, it will remove the status effect and inflict another. And this is the downside of using the violet curative. It can make you drunk. If you drink too many of these, then you could end up putting yourself in an even worse bind than before.

Use them sparingly to ensure you don’t end up with a hangover.

2. Stygian Liquor – A Desert Traveler’s Companion

  • Crafting Station: Fermentation Barrel
  • Ingredients: 1 Purified Water, 10 Leavening Agent, 1 Serpent Venom Gland, 1 Spice
  • Effect: Provides Cooling Down and Drunken status effects

If your go-to method to gather serpent venom glands is to hunt cobras in the desert, you will want some Stygian liquor. Even if you plan to cross the desert, having a few bottles on hand is worth it. That’s because Stygian liquor offers the Cooling Down status effect.

The Cooling Down status effect helps keep your character cool while traveling through a hot area. It reduces the drain of your thirst, so you won’t have to go through your waterskin as quickly. That makes the consumable a helpful aid for those who often travel through or live in the desert.

To make the Stygian liquor, you’ll need a fermentation barrel. It takes just a single serpent venom gland, but you’ll also need other ingredients like a leavening agent, purified water, and spice. The good news is that since you only need one gland, you could make quite a few bottles of Stygian liquor from a single cobra or snake.

Like the violet curative, the Stygian liquor gives you the Drunken status effect. You can travel through the desert without becoming too hot, but you’ll be drunk. That can be a challenge in itself. Drink the liquor sparingly to avoid the side effects of the Drunken status effect.

3. Ichor – A Common Ingredient Worth Stocking

Ichor in conan exiles what it does
In-game description of ichor. Image Credit: Will Butterworth
  • Crafting Station: Fluid Press
  • Ingredients: 10 Serpent Venom Glands
  • Effect: Useful resource to make items, potions, and other consumables

Ichor is one of the most common ingredients in Conan Exiles. Being able to have it in reasonable quantities is essential for efficient crafting. Serpent venom glands can help you keep your ichor in stock.

It takes 10 glands to make 1 ichor, so there are better ratios than this, but if you’re out there hunting serpents regularly, you’ll have plenty on hand. You must put the 10 glands in a Fluid Press to make ichor. After a short time, ichor will appear in the Press’s inventory.

Since ichor is an ingredient, you can use it to make other items. Alchemical base is one of its most common uses. You can also use ichor to make a corrupted stone or consumables like Feast to Yog.

4. Honey – Raise Mighty Pets

  • Crafting Station: Pleasure Place of Derketo
  • Ingredients: 5 Serpent Venom Glands, 1 Sliver of the Unfulfilled
  • Effect: Ingredient for taming food and consumables

Honey is a delicious cooking ingredient that can make high-tier foods and increase the chance of raising a high-tier pet. There are a few ways that you can make honey. Combining serpent venom glands with a sliver of the unfulfilled in the Pleasure Place of Derketo is one of those.

The Pleasure Place of Derketo is a worship site for followers of Derketo. You can make the honey in any of the shrine’s upgraded tiers, too. To craft honey, you’ll need 5 serpent venom glands and 1 sliver of the unfulfilled.

Honey can make specific consumables like honey jerky, honey bread, and the Feast of Mitra, among other things. You can make drinks with it and feed it to your pets to increase the chances of it growing into a high-tier ally.

Since it only takes 5 serpent venom glands to make it, grinding the glands is a great way to produce a good amount of honey.
