Conan Exiles Legendary Chest Guide

Conan Exiles Legendary Chest Guide: Stack Up Them Skeleton Keys

A Conan Exiles Legendary Chest guide can help you farm legendary items until you’ve collected all these chests have to offer. Some of the best weapons in the game are in these chests, so it’s well worth the boss fight necessary to collect them.

The first Legendary Chest I saw was hiding in the side of a cliff near the White Tiger in the Savanna. I didn’t know then that it was one of the strongest Legendaries in the game.

But with the help of my group, we took it down, got our first Skeleton Key, and opened the chest. Inside was my first taste of a Legendary Item. Since then, I’ve been hooked and take the time to open the chests whenever I see them.

Overview of Legendary Chests in Conan Exiles

Legendary Chests in Conan Exiles contain items from a list of legendary items at random. The chests are guarded by a Legendary Creature that is guarding the chest. To get the contents, you must have a Skeleton Key, which you can harvest from these Legendary Creatures.

Not all Legendary Items can be found in these chests; each chest does not contain a specific item. There’s a pool of weapons that you can get in these chests, which isn’t decided until you open the chest.

Every Legendary Creature in Conan Exiles

Legendary Creatures are tough to fight, but they aren’t as strong as main bosses in dungeons. They are stronger than most mini-bosses though, so make sure you’re geared up before fighting them.

Black Yeti

  • HP – 22,625
  • Armor – 84
  • Recommended Level – 50
  • Location – Rockfall Canyon

The Black Yeti does not guard a chest but still drops a key. He can be found roaming the area where the snow meets the volcano in H-12 or C-14. Despite his high health, he’s not tough to fight because he’s easy to dodge and knock back.

Drops

  • Advanced Armor Patch Kit
  • Alchemical Base
  • Demon Blood
  • Feral Flesh
  • Fur
  • Glowing Essence
  • Goldstone
  • Shadebloom
  • Ice
  • Skeleton Key
  • Silverstone
  • Steelfire

Demon Spider

Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 20,871
  • Armor – 84
  • Recommended Level – 40
  • Location – Weaver’s Hollow, Wreck of the Martyr, Spinner’s Ridge, Wine Cellar

The Demon Spider spawns at four locations. The summoning circle at Weaver’s Hollow contains a Legendary Chest in that room. Wreck of the Martyr’s chest is on the same island.

As for combat, she’s not a tough fight. She can do poison damage, but she usually charges her attacks, which makes them easy to dodge. The only tricky attack is her Mist Attack, which you should run away from.

Drops

  • Brimstone
  • Chitin
  • Demon Blood
  • Demonic Spider Head
  • Feral Flesh, Gossamer
  • Ichor
  • Skeleton Key

Feasts-on-Flesh

  • HP – 11.375
  • Armor – 47
  • Recommended Level – 35
  • Location – Bin-Yakin’s Seal

What’s really great about this boss is that you can harvest tools off of it. These tools are top tier because they don’t cost stamina to harvest and do more damage than any other tier of tool.

The creature here is a boss in Bin-Yakin’s Seal cave. Continue through the cave to the end to find him. He’s not a hard fight. The chest is near the skylight to the east of the chamber.

Drops

  • Black Blood Pick
  • Black Blood Hatchet
  • Black Blood Sickle
  • Black Blood Skinning Knife
  • Skeleton Key

Giant Crocodile

  • HP – 17,415
  • Armor – 72
  • Recommended Level – 30
  • Location – The Sentinels, Mek-kamoses’s Spire, Priestking’s Retreat, Waterhole Outlook, Heliograph Heights

The Giant Crocodile Legendary Creature is not the same as the Giant Crocodile Boss in Gallaman’s Tomb. The Legendary Creature versions have two short-ranged attacks, but only one is easy to sidestep.

The bite attack almost always hits if you’re close enough, and the boss can’t use his other attack. His long-ranged attacks, on the other hand, are always easy to dodge. As for chests, some of them are half-buried in the ground while others were taken out with a patch.

Drops

  • Fangs
  • Feral Flesh
  • Reptile Hide
  • Skeleton Key

Giant Snake

Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 8265
  • Armor – 84
  • Recommended Level – 35
  • Location – The Arena, Citadel of the Triumvirate

Both of these legendary creatures have chests nearby. The one in the Arena is easy to find, but the one in the Citadel of the Triumvirate is harder to get to as it’s in the back of the city.

When attacking, shields are useless but dodging seems to work. I recommend fighting from behind while a thrall or another player is baiting attacks. Make sure to grab the Relic Fragment near the chest at the Citadel.

Drops

  • Demon Blood
  • Feral Flesh
  • Ichor
  • Skeleton Key

Giant Spider

conan exiles giant spider
Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 20871
  • Armor – 84
  • Recommended Level – 40
  • Location – The Dryfalls, The Silkwood, Spinebreaker’s Flank, Skittering Cavern

Spiders are super annoying, but they’re not too tough if you dodge their jumps to avoid poison. If you have trouble dodging, grab some Antidotes that cure the poison they inflict.

I recommend taking care of the smaller spiders real quick so that you can focus on the large one without having to worry about being attacked from behind. You can often do this before engaging with the large one at all.

Drops

  • Chitin
  • Demon Blood
  • Feral Flesh
  • Gossamer
  • Ichor
  • Skeleton Key

King Rhino

conan exiles king rhino
Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 28,680
  • Armor – 75
  • Recommended Level – 55
  • Location – Muriela’s Hope, Rhinohorn Ridge

King Rhino cannot be knocked back, but he’s good at knocking you back. He’s really strong in general and has high health, so I suggest bringing a team or else you may struggle with stamina.

Drops

  • Bone
  • Exotic Flesh
  • Horn
  • Rhino Hide
  • Rhino King Head
  • Skeleton Key
  • Thick Hide

King Scorpion

Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 23,529
  • Armor – 84
  • Recommended Level – 45
  • Location – Godsight Spire, Ironbreaker Ridge, Ravager’s Cleft, The Scorpion Den

The King Scorpion is strong but easy to dodge. As an Agility maxer, this means it’s an easy fight. There used to be three Unnamed City King Scorpions but they were removed from the game.

Now, there are only four, which is still a lot for a Legendary Creature. Fighting them does require you to pay attention because you must read the attacks to dodge them then counterattack.

Drops

  • Chitin
  • Exotic Flesh
  • Ichor
  • Skeleton Key

One Lost Behind (IoS)

conan exiles one lost behind (ios)
Image from conanexiles fandom wiki
  • HP – 11,375
  • Recommended Level – 30
  • Location – Chamber of Scales

One Lost Behind is an Isle of Siptah exclusive Child of Jhil boss. He has a 5% chance to drop Black Blood tools when harvested and a 25% chance to drop Legendary Weapons not found in Legendary Chests.

Drops

  • Feral Flesh
  • Feather
  • Black Blood
  • Demon Blood
  • Hollowbone Arrow
  • Black Blood Tools

Reptilian Monstrosity

conan exiles reptilian monstrosity
Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 19,143
  • Armor – 78
  • Recommended Level – 45
  • Location – Dagon’s Claw

The Reptilian Monstrosity is a large red rhino boss. The regular red rhinos are a pain, and this one is no exception. He is susceptible to poison and relatively easy to dodge, but his attack hitboxes are a bit tricky.

Drops

  • Bone
  • Claws
  • Exotic Flesh
  • Fangs
  • Reptile Hide
  • Skeleton Key

Rockslide

conan exiles rockslide
Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 4844
  • Armor – 72
  • Recommended Level – 25
  • Location – Fingerfang Rock, The Claws, The Barrens, Siptah’s Contemplation, The Triune Grave

Rockslide is a “living mountain” creature that is easy to kill. He has low HP for a rock dude and doesn’t hit too hard, either. But I suggest hitting him and then running behind him until he dies.

Drops

  • Brimstone
  • Demon Blood
  • Skeleton Key
  • Stone

Rotbranch

conan exiles rotbranch
Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 15,687
  • Armor – 65
  • Recommended Level – 50
  • Location – Circle of Swords, Shattered Springs, Tarman’s Berth, The Dirgewood

Rotbranches attack as soon as you enter their domain, forcing you to fight or run. When you spot him, he’ll probably be curled up on the ground. As long as he’s sleeping, it means he hasn’t seen you.

His abilities aren’t hard to track. He fights a lot like a gorilla with rolls, pounds, and AoEs. He also has a unique vine attack that comes around you from the ground.

Drops

  • Bone
  • Exotic Flesh
  • Skeleton Key
  • Thick Hide
  • Vines

Sand Reaper Hive Queen

Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 13,760
  • Armor – 78
  • Recommended Level – 45
  • Location – Oasis of Nekhet, Upper Staging Area, Voyager’s Vigil

The Sand Reaper is quite average compared to other Legendary Creatures. She attacks slowly, making her easy to dodge. But if she does hit you, she’ll knock you down, doing extra damage.

It’s a good idea to get some Antidotes before you face her in case she hits you with poison, which will slowly kill you before you get a chance to recover.

Drops

  • Chitin
  • Feral Flesh
  • Sand Reaper Toxin Gland
  • Skeleton Key

Shrouded-By-Darkness

conan exiles shrouded-by-darkness
Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 16,260
  • Armor – 47
  • Recommended Level – 40
  • Location – Lockstone Cave

Shrouded-by-Darkness is a Child of Jhil boss located in one of the four Jhil caves. These cave bosses are not hard to fight but they do hit decently hard and are more difficult to read than slower bosses.

Drops

  • Fragment of Power
  • Black Blood
  • Scroll (Specialist Ammunition IV)
  • Skeleton Key

The Slaughter (IoS)

conan exiles the slaughter (ios)
Image from conanexiles fandom wiki
  • HP – 17,000
  • Recommended Level – 45
  • Location – Ruins of X’chotl

The Slaughterer isn’t easy to find. You’ll have to head to the southeastern corner E-10, the northern area of the Ruins of X’chotl, and climb up the tower there. He attacks like a strong standard skeleton but has a special weapon.

The weapon is a Dragonbone Two-Handed Sword, so you can see how it works in his hands. He also has a 35% chance to drop War Sickles or a Razor-Sharp Axe.

Drops

  • Bone
  • Weathered Skull
  • Putrid Meat
  • Infused Wraps
  • Demon Blood
  • Skeleton Key
  • War Sickles
  • Razor-Sharp Axe
  • Fragment of Power

The Tortured King

conan exiles the tortured king
Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 17,000
  • Recommended Level – 35
  • Location – King’s Niche

The Tortured King is a skeleton Legendary Creature that is extremely straightforward. By the time you get here, you’ll be an expert at fighting skeletons, so you don’t need to learn specifics. He also guards seven regular chests on top of the Legendary, amazing gold farm.

Drops

  • Skeleton Key
  • Putrid Meat
  • Demon Blood
  • Bone
  • Infused Wraps

Thunderfoot

conan exiles thunderfoot
Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 18,372
  • Armor – 84
  • Recommended Level – 45
  • Location – Boundary Spillway

Thunderfoot is a large elephant Legendary Creature. Even small elephants are tanky in this game, so the Thunderfoot is insanely tanky. He also hits hard, but you’re good if you can avoid his charge, swing, and stomp.

Drops

  • Elephant Hide
  • Exotic Flesh
  • Ivory
  • Skeleton Key
  • Thick Hide
  • Tusks

White Tiger

Screenshot by Emily Medlock
  • HP – 20,750
  • Armor – 78
  • Recommended Level – 40
  • Location – Boundary Spillway, King’s Niche, The Crowngrove, The Dryfalls

The White Tiger is fast but susceptible to knockbacks and sunders. It used to be fairly easy to kill, but then it got a buff where its health as raised significantly. Now it’s a top-tier Legendary Creature.

Drops

  • Claws
  • Fangs
  • Feline Pelt
  • Feral Flesh
  • Skeleton Key

Legendary Items in Conan Exiles Boss Chests

Screenshot by Emily Medlock

There are 47 items you can get from Legendary Chests. There are 209 total Legendary Items. This means you can only get a fraction of them from Legendary Chests, but as someone who loves RNG, opening loot is one of my favorite activities.

FAQs

Question: Are Legendary Chest Items Epic?

Answer: No. Epic is a type of item, usually an improved version of another item. But Legendary is a rarity allotted to just over 200 items in the game that don’t use recipes to unlock.

Question: How Often Do Legendary Chests Respawn in Conan Exiles?

Answer: The standard time is 30 minutes. But this depends on the server settings. The creature guarding the chest will spawn around the time that the chest respawns, so camping it isn’t ideal.

Question: Are Skeleton Keys Guaranteed?

Answer: Yes. At one point, there was only a 50% chance. But now, there’s a 100% chance of them dropping a Skeleton Key when harvested with any weapon or tool. However, you cannot get more than one per creature.

Legendary Chests to Gear Up in Conan Exiles

Legendary Chests don’t contain armor, so gearing up with them isn’t possible. But you can easily skip any other weapon better than them because the ones you get in Legendary Chests will last you throughout the entire game.

Fighting Legendary Creatures and opening Legendary Chests isn’t necessary. There are plenty of other ways to get Legendary Weapons, but when you look at the big picture, Legendary Chests are one of the most efficient ways to get some of the strongest weapons in Conan Exiles.
