Conan Exiles Top Most Important Cities

Forgotten City of Xel-ha – jungle city with the Witch Queen and the Sunken City entrance.
Unnamed City – a red city full of a dangerous plague, a unique map room, and many bosses that drop exclusive loot.
Sepermeru, City of the Relic Hunters – friendly city of merchants.

Conan Exiles Capitals

The capitals in Conan Exiles are where the tribes gather. There are tons of camps and other locations across the map, but this is where the most important places will be. They’re also super fun to visit when they’re not overrun by enemies.

Exiles Capital (Sinner’s Refuge)

The Exiles Capital is a trail of camps located around the southern river. This capital includes Sinner’s Refuge, a cave inside the boundaries. Inside this cave and along the beach, you’ll find many good, but not amazing, Exile thralls.

While in the cave, you can get a lot of Brimstone, which is great for making alchemical items, and Star Metal Bars. Head a block or so down the river to find Gallaman’s Tomb, which also contains Brimstone. When you pair the two caves, this is the best Brimstone farm in the game.

Forgotten City of Xel-ha

The Forgotten City of Xel-ha is a huge ancient city with multiple key locations. It takes up most of the jungle to the far east of the map. The most important locations in the city are the Palace of the Witch Queen, Pagoda of Boundless Lusts (amazing thrall farm), and Dagon’s Embrace.

The only location you must visit to complete the “main story” is the Palace of the Witch Queen. This is a dungeon containing a boss that drops a key item. However, Pagoda of Boundless Lusts has a friendly NPC called Yakira, Priestess of Derketo, that can train you in the ways of Derketo.

Mounds of the Dead

Mounds of the Dead is a highly-congested village with several buildings with loot chests inside. It’s also the only place you can get Specter Coating as a random drop. Other exclusives include two Special Cooking recipes, the Chicken emote, and Thorgar the Blacksmith.

Thorgar is a merchant that sells the recipe for Pride of Aesir armor. To get it, you have to travel around the capital and find the ingredients he needs. Then, you can buy it and unlock this great medium armor.

Sepermeru, City of the Relic Hunters

Sepermeru is the single most important city in the game. This is where you can find Conan, Razma, and hidden locations that unlock exclusives. Not the mention, inside the city limits, the NPCs are friendly.

There’s so much to cover regarding Sepermeru, so I’ll cover the basics. Merchants are in Waterside and Westwall. Emotes/recipes are in Southlake, Waterside, and Westwall. Finally, if you want amazing thralls, then anywhere in the city you can find T4 thralls that are better than almost any thrall in the game.

New Asagarth

Obelisk – close, north at the lake where the snow meets the grass

New Asagarth is one of my favorite cities. It contains a ton of thralls, a miniboss, and a worldboss. The miniboss, Misha, always spawns, but the world boss, Ladagara Daughter Of Ymir, only has 10% chance of spawning.

If you kill the world boss, she will drop a pet called Frost Giant Bodyguard. Though not super strong, it’s a unique pet that looks more like a thrall. Misha always drops a set of excellent daggers.

The Black Galleon

The Black Galleon is a full-on stone pirate ship full of enemies. Inside, you can find the Seduce emote, the recipe for Black Hand Banners, and plenty of loot chests around the ship.

It is one of the most densely populated areas in the Exiled Lands, so you should proceed with caution. To avoid a good portion of the enemies, enter from the south rather than the north.

The Den

The Den is the capital for the Dogs of the Desert. It’s a huge ruined city full of thralls and werehyenas. It’s worth going through the dangers, though because you can get the Belly Dance emote plus buy Camel and Rocknose pets.

They cost 10 gold each, so I wouldn’t mess with it until you have 20 gold, so maybe you’ll only have to run through the city once. Not to mention, the nearest obelisk is in the Unnamed City.

The Summoning Place

The Summoning Place in the middle of the desert has a ton of unlocks, though nothing crucial. The thralls are low tier, even the T4 ones, so getting through isn’t hard as long as you take it slow.

While you’re there, pick up the sassy Spank emote near the entrance. Then, the By Yog emote, two specialist cooking recipes, and the Skulltaker recipes can be found throughout the city.

The Temple of Frost

The Temple of Frost is located deep north in the snow. Inside, you can learn how to make totems, the Crom emotes, and use the Frost Smithy. You can also farm a ton of Black Ice throughout, which you need for most of the Frost Smithy recipes.

The smithy is guarded by frost giants. To use the smithy, you will need to take a different path, defeat the boss Hrungnur, and learn the Black Ice weapons behind him. You can also make the Pride of Aesir armor (Mounds of the Dead recipe) at the Frost Smithy.

The Unnamed City

The Unnamed City is the capital’s name and the red biome on the map. The dangerous area is home to dragons, bat demons, and a plague that will kill you in seconds. So be prepared.

Seven main bosses in the area drop Fragments of Power and legendary repair kits. This is an amazing farm for those rare items that are needed to repair legendary items. But that’s not the most crucial reason to visit the Unnamed City.

Inside, you will find the Archives, where you learn the Map Room, allowing you to teleport to any obelisk. On top of that, there are legendary chests and other bosses with exclusive drops. Worth the visit whenever you are geared up.

Almost Cities and Ruins in Conan Exiles

There are several locations in Conan Exiles that aren’t considered capitals, but they are still old cities not in operation or important enough to be considered cities in my book.

The Sunken City

The Sunken City is the Atlantis of Conan Exiles. You can find the entrance on a canoe in the Forgotten City. The Sunken City is a dungeon that used to be the home of the Lemurians.

You’ll have to follow a short path to reach the underwater portion. After you do, you can go through the seven temples that were once above ground, fighting bosses at each one. I have an entire guide on this one.

Serpentman City – The Well of Skelos

The Well of Skelos is a dungeon, once a city called Serpentman City. It is located in the volcano, so you must have clothing that cools you off or drink something to do so when you enter.

Inside, there’s a Volcanic Forge where you can make Composite Obsidian. You can find Obsidian all around the volcano, which is also a great place to farm gold. All around, the Well of Skelos is a hostile place, but there’s plenty of loot to make up for it.

Buccaneer Bay

Buccaneer Bay is one of my favorite locations. You can farm gold via the twenty chests in the area, buy exclusives from one of the six merchants, or capture some of the best thralls in the game.

Though you can do a lot at the other locations in Buccaneer Bay, heading for Flotsam will be your best bet. That’s where you’ll find the merchants and most of the NPCs.

Wine Cellar

Obelisk – kind of; there’s one next to Sepermeru

The Wine Cellar is a dungeon you can reach if you sneak behind the tavern and open the door. There you will find plenty of Khari Steel (and recipes), Fragments of Power, and Pristine weapons.

I call the Wine Cellar a city because once you reach behind the wine cellar, there’s an underground mining city far larger (and populous) than most other cities in the Exiled Lands. At the end of the dungeon, you’ll face Thag, who drops good Legendary strength weapons.

Midnight Grove

Midnight Grove is an amazing dungeon with unique aesthetics surrounding Jhebbal Sag. To enter the dungeon, you must consume a potion called Potion of Midnight that you can buy from the Child of Jhebbal Sag.

Inside there are a lot of small creatures and four main bosses. At the end, you’ll find the real Jhebbal Sag, but you won’t have to fight him. The whole vibe is creepy, and I live for it.

The Black Keep

The Black Keep is home to the Silent Legion bosses. You must defeat the Kinscourge to beat the game, so this is a location you will eventually have to face. It’s not all that bad, and you’ll get to collect plenty of loot while you’re there.

Though more like a dungeon, I call this the Black Keep because of how large and once-populated it must have been. The buildings are still int act and huge compared to other ruined civilizations.

FAQs

Question: Are Only the Capital Cities Important in Conan Exiles?

Answer: No. Most capitals are important to the story and for exclusive loot/merchants. But a few civilizations are just as important for the same reasons. The capitals are simply larger, more populated cities where the tribes reside.

Question: Will Your Tribe Attack You in Conan Exiles?

Answer: Yes. Even if you have learned the religion and chosen the same race as them, a hostile tribe will always attack. The only completely safe city in Conan Exiles is Sepermeru.

Question: What’s the Best City to Live in Conan Exiles?

Answer: You can’t build inside of cities in Conan Exiles. The only one you may want to build in is Sepermeru, but building there is super restricted, and you can’t build near it either.

The Power of Exploration in Conan Exiles

I love a game that rewards exploration and Conan Exiles does just that. My favorite way to play a game the first time is to go in blind. That way, I can explore organically, which makes finding exclusive loot and hidden locations more fun.

Every city has both of these and more. But what I love even more than either is happening upon a huge city with unique aesthetics. The rush of stepping through those gates makes me feel like I need my own cinematic.
