A Conan Exiles Fur guide may be just what you need to farm and utilize this ingredient. Fur is an ingredient you get from harvesting select creatures in Conan Exiles. It often adds protection from the cold.
Though it isn’t a core ingredient like hide, it is important if you want the game’s best armor. In my experience, it seems I passively farm stuff until I need it. Then, I have no idea where to find it.
When it comes to fur, you just have to know which creatures you can harvest it from. From there, it’s fairly easy to find them, kill them, and harvest their fur with the proper tools.

Conan Exiles Fur Overview
- Fur is harvested from specific creatures and bosses
- Fur’s main use is to make Layered Fur, used in late-game armor
- Use a skinning knife to harvest Fur
- Boars, Gorillas, and Goats are all great options for getting Fur
- The Fluid Press can be used to turn carcasses into Fur and other ingredients
Where to Get Fur in Conan Exiles
You can get Fur by killing and harvesting animals in most biomes. Most animals that you assume have fur will have fur. But a few may surprise you. For example, Brown Bears don’t have fur, yet Black Bears do.
So, in this game, it’s creature by creature. To get the most fur out of the animal, use a skinning knife or even a dagger. If you use a hatchet or cleaver, expect to get more meat and less fur/hide.
Fluid Press
You can grind Lion and Yeti carcasses for bones, thick hides, blood, and fur. The Lion Carcass will give five fur, and the Yeti Carcass will give 10 Fur. To do so, you need a Fluid Press, an amazing way to get blood, ichor, and other ingredients.

What to Make with Fur in Conan Exiles
Fur can make a handful of decent armor sets when paired with padding. You must unlock the required knowledge to make them, which you can find via a runestone (or similar) or on your knowledge page manually.
Hyperborean Set
- Hyperborean Slaver Boots – 1 Heavy Padding, 8 Fur
- Hyperborean Slaver Loincloth – 1 Heavy Padding, 12 Fur
- Hyperborean Slaver Waistguard – 1 Heavy Padding, 15 Fur, 45 Iron Bar
The Hyperborean set is decent armor. But it’s not the best considering it’s heavy armor, and there are much better options. Still, it’s easy to make and significantly increases strength and weapon damage.
Though the boots, loincloth, and waistguards (chest pieces) have fur, their chest isn’t technically covered. It’s a common practice for the Hyperborean warriors to go into battle bare-chested to intimidate their enemies.
Vanir Set
- Vanir Fur Boots – 1 Medium Padding, 8 Fur
- Vanir Fur Cap – 1 Medium Padding, 8 Fur
- Vanir Fur Gauntlets – 1 Medium Padding, 8 Fur
- Vanir Fur Harness – 1 Medium Padding, 15 Fur
- Vanir Fur Tasset – 1 Medium Padding, 12 Fur
- Vanir Settler Boots – 1 Light Padding, 8 Fur
- Vanir Settler Breechclout – 1 Light Padding, 12 Fur
- Vanir Settler Gloves – 1 Light Padding, 8 Fur
- Vanir Settler Jewelry – 1 Light Padding, 8 Fur
- Vanir Settler Vest – 1 Light Padding, 15 Fur
Both the light and medium set of Vanir armor uses Fur. The full set of either armor grants 25 Stamina and 10 protection from the cold. Armor-wise, neither set is great (264 medium, 51 light), but it’s not bad if you’re not going to use the ingredients for something else.
Both sets are average armor-wise, so I never make the set. Instead, I hope for drops from northern Nordheimers or opt for Hyena-Fur, which is very similar. I love the look of both Vanir and Hyena-Fur. My favorite part is that my hair shows in the Vanir set, which is rare in headpieces.
Taxidermy – Requires Library of Esoteric Artifacts (Knowledge)
- Taxidermied Boar – 100 Hide, 10 Tusks, 5 Fur
- Taxidermied Gorilla – 100 Thick Hide, 10 Fur, 2 Fangs
- Taxidermied Mountain Goat – 100 Hide, 5 Horns, 5 Fur
- Taxidermied Yeti – 50 Fur, 1 White Dye, 2 Fangs
I love decorating houses in survival games, so I always look into taxidermy. In Conan Exiles, I prefer other animals that don’t require fur to create their dummies. But these four do require fur, and they still look amazing.
To make them, you need to get an Artisan Table of some sort. The ingredients are easy to find for most of them, but the Yeti will require a White Dye, which you can make in the Dyer’s Bench with White Ash.
Misc
- Inking Brush – easy to craft in Dyer’s Bench and is used to make war paints and floor paints or Sorcerous Spell Pages.
- Layered Fur– Crafted in Tanner’s Table with Fur and Alchemical Base. This is an important ingredient for late-game armor.
- Leather and Tar – use the Tannery to turn Fur into Leather and Tar
Isle of Siptah Exclusive
- Wild Druid Boots – 1 Medium Padding, 8 Fur, 3 Eldarium
- Wild Druid Chestpiece – 1 Medium Padding, 8 Fur, 3 Eldarium
- Wild Druid Gloves – 1 Medium Padding, 8 Fur, 3 Eldarium
- Wild Druid Helm – 1 Medium Padding, 8 Fur, 3 Eldarium
- Wild Druid Wrap – 1 Medium Padding, 8 Fur, 3 Eldarium
The Wild Druid set looks so cool to me. The base armor of 189 is lacking, but it increases your health by 80 total, which makes up for the armor. It also increases carrying capacity by 30% and follower damage by 4%.
Layered Fur Recipes
Layered Fur is improved fur that you make with Fur and Alchemical Base. If you’re lucky, you can get the base from drops. If not, you’ll have to make it. But by the time you can make these armor sets, you’ll probably have plenty of ingredients.
Champion’s Set
- 100 Armor Scraps – can only get from killing the Arena Champion or Champion of the Warmaker in Klael’s Stronghold
- 5 Perfected Heavy Padding – made with Hardened Leather, Elephant Hide, and Twine in Improved Armorer’s Bench
- 100 Layered Fur
The Champion’s set is often considered the best armor in the game. You must defeat the Warmaker’s Sanctuary bosses multiple times to get scraps to make it, so it will take a lot of work.
When you make the full set, you’ll get 1000 Base Armor, plus full protection from the cold and heat. A couple of small bonuses like 15 stamina and 6% strength weapon damage are the icing on the cake.
Cimmerian Fur Set
- 5 Perfected Medium Padding – made in Improved Armorer’s Bench with Hardened Leather, Rhino Hide, and Twine
- 66 Hardened Leather – made in Tanner’s Table with Leather, Thick Leather, Alchemical Base, and Oil
- 93 Layered Fur
The Cimmerian Fur Set is good medium armor. It doesn’t offer much protection from the elements, but it does have 420 armor (top three medium armor sets) and grants 100 extra health. Compared to other medium armor, this is great.
Hyena-Fur Set (Epic)
- 5 Perfected Medium Padding
- 225 Iron Bars
- 100 Layered Fur
The Hyena-Fur Epic is a better version of the normal set. It has 400 base armor, an extra 40 health, and 12% more follower damage. For a medium set, it’s fantastic, especially with the added 12 cold protection and 20 heat protection.
Hykurian Raider Set (Epic)
- 5 Perfected Heavy Padding
- 225 Hardened Steel Bars
- 100 Layered Fur
The Hyrkurian Raider set Epic is an amazing set, but it’s not easy to make. It takes a while to get over 200 Hardened Steel. But with 1000 armor and 20% extra follower damage, it’s worth it.
Kambujan Shaman Set (Epic)
- 5 Perfected Medium Padding
- 225 Iron Bars
- 100 Layered Fur
The Kambujan Shaman Epic set is on the higher end of medium armor. The cold and heat protection is average as a set. What makes it special is the over 400 armor and 15% extra strength weapon damage.
Vanir Fur Set (Epic)
- 5 Perfected Medium Padding
- 225 Iron Bars
- 100 Layered Fur
I would skip this set because the others that require the same ingredients are better. This set has a total of 379 base armor and 25 extra stamina. Without insane heat and cold protection, this one falls behind.
Wild Druid Set (Epic) – Isle of Siptah
- 5 Perfected Medium Padding
- 40 Eldarium
- 50 Layered Fur
The Epic version of the Wild Druid set has the same bonuses as the original but with better armor. The armor is increased to 379, which is still good for a medium set. If you want to pack-mule, then it’s a good choice.
Random Items
- Bulked Plating – equipment upgrade that increases armor
- Gliding Joints – upgrade that increases movement while climbing
- Master Armor Plating – increases armor even more
FAQs
Question: Should I Save My Fur to Make Layered Fur?
Answer: I usually do. But if there’s something that you need early on, it won’t affect you much if you use it. Remember to harvest every animal you kill to stack up ingredients before you need them.
Question: What’s the Best Fur Farm in Conan Exiles?
Answer: I find the gorillas to be a good farm because it seems everything in the Jungle gives fur. Plus, you can get extra goodies like thick hide and savory flesh while you’re there.
Question: Which Tool Should I Harvest Fur With?
Answer: The skinning knife is the best option. But any tool can get you some, so no need to wait for a skinning knife. I find that using a good steel tool of any kind is better than a stone tool of any kind.
Conan Exiles Fur – Take It or Leave It
I’ve only done fur farming in Conan Exiles a few times. When I did, it was a simple boar farm or passive gorilla farm while I got some thick hide. If you don’t use the Fur for anything before you need it, you’ll gain it passively too.
The main purpose is to make Layered Fur and a few random armor pieces. The Layered Fur can make the best armor in the game, so getting it is necessary if you want to be at your best. Otherwise, Fur is an easy skip that you won’t miss.
