Conan Exiles Exotic Meat Guide: Take a Cleaver to a Rhino

A Conan Exiles Exotic Meat guide can help you stack up on this top-tier haunch. This is one of the rarest meats in the game, only harvested from large, strong creatures and bosses.

I remember when I played the AoC mod, and I needed a ton of Exotic Flesh for farming turn-ins. It was such a pain because I didn’t know which creatures gave it so I spent way too much time trying to gather it before I gave in and looked it up.

Exotic Meat Overview

  • The best way to get Exotic Flesh is by farming rhinos
  • Exotic Flesh is one tier below Exquisite Meat
  • Exotic Meat usually comes from certain bosses and legendary creatures
  • The best tool for Exotic Flesh is a cleaver
  • You can feed Exotic Flesh to baby pets to give them a 7% to 30% chance of being Greater, depending on the animal

How to Get Exotic Flesh in Conan Exiles

There are a handful of animals and bosses that give Exotic Flesh in Conan. Most of them will require you to be quite a high level with good gear, but you can work your way up to getting this amazing meat.

Brother of the Mists

  • HP – 4000
  • Armor – 60
  • KB Defense – 1000
  • Other Drops – Horn, Shadebloom, Thick Hide

Brother of the Mists is not the monster I would fight if I were looking for Exotic Flesh. But if you are in the Midnight Grove dungeon, here’s a friendly reminder to use a cleaver when harvesting this boss for a good amount of the meat.

When you fight him, make sure you stay in the arena to avoid taking damage from gas and losing much of your vision. He hits really hard with his charge attacks as he is a bull, but they can be shielded or dodged.

Dragon Hatchling

Image from Fandom
  • HP – 5565
  • Armor – 59
  • KB Defense – 1000
  • Other Drops – Brimstone, Demon Blood, Dragonbone, Dragonhorn

Dragon Hatchlings are a good source of Exotic Flesh and Demon Blood. They spawn in the Spawning Pools at the Unnamed City. Despite their cute name, they are no one to mess with, considering their substantial stats.

Thankfully, all of their attacks are short-range or at least medium, so you can get a headstart by attacking them from a distance. When it rears up to roar, it will be vulnerable for quite a while, which is a good time for melee damage.

Elephant

Conan Exiles Elephant
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 1467
  • Armor – 59
  • KB Defense – 1000
  • Other Drops – Bone, Elephant Hide, Ivory, Thick Hide, Tusks

Elephants are tanky creatures, but killing them often pays off because they are one of the only creatures with Ivory and can grant you a good amount of Exotic Flesh. At first, fighting them is tricky, but their attacks are easy to learn.

Elephants charge, swipe, and stomp, which are all easy to spot if you view the body. I suggest using a longer weapon which makes it easier to see the elephant because they are large enough that it’s easy to be blinded.

Elk King

 Conan Exiles Elk King
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 1467
  • Armor – 59
  • KB Defense – 50
  • Other Drops – Bone, Elk King Head, Fur, Horn, Thick Hide

Elk Kings are one of the easiest bosses to fight in Conan Exiles. I don’t recall ever dying to one, which is saying a lot because when I don’t have anything to lose, I can be a real Leeroy Jenkins.

You can take on this miniboss by roaming around the Highlands, Snow, or Tundra until you find one. He has huge antlers, which sets him apart from the other elks and deer in the area.

Green, Red, and White Dragon

Conan Exiles White Dragon
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 40,998
  • Armor – 84
  • KB Defense – 1000
  • Other Drops – Dragon Head, Demon Blood, Brimstone, Dragonbone, Dragonhorn, Volatile Gland

The Red and Green Dragon bosses are located in the Unnamed City at the Spawning Pools. They are extremely strong so fighting them should not be attempted unless you are level 60 and geared up. The White Dragon spawns at the Temple of Frost ahd High Way but has the same attacks and stats as the others in the Unnamed City.

King Scorpion

Conan Exiles King Scorpion
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 23,529
  • Armor – 84
  • KB Defense – 25
  • Other Drops – Chitin, Ichor, Skeleton Key

King Scorpion is a Legendary Creature with three spawns in the Desert and one in the Scorpion Den, his natural home. Although he has high health for a scorpion, he charges all his attacks, so evading them is easy.

Mammoth

Conan Exiles Mammoth
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 1973
  • Armor – 78
  • KB Defense – 1000
  • Other Drops – Bone, Fur, Ivory, Mammoth Head, Thick Hide, Elephant Hide, Tusks

Mammoths are one of my least favorite regular creatures to fight because of their size and tankiness. They get distracted easily, so they may go fight a wild creature in the middle of combat, but it’s still hard to get a good look at them during combat, and it takes forever to kill them. But they provide a lot of Exortic Flesh.

Reptilian Monstrosity (boss)

Image from Fandom
  • HP – 19,143
  • Armor – 78
  • KB Defense – 0
  • Other Drops – Bone, Claws, Fangs, Reptile Hide, Skeleton Key

The standard Reptilian Monstrosities also give Exotic Flesh but I recommend rhinos over them. However, if you want to take down the Legendary Reptilian Monstrosity, head over to the Dagon’s Claw.

Rotbranch

Conan Exiles Rotbranch
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 15,687
  • Armor – 65
  • KB Defense – 0
  • Other Drops – Bone, Skeleton Key, Thick Hide, Vines

Rotbranch spawns all over the Exiled Lands. He can be found at the Circle of Swords, Shattered Springs, Tarman’s Berth, and The Dirgewood. He fights like a gorilla with sweeping and pounding attacks that are easy to spot.

Scorpion (large)

Conan Exiles Scorpion Large
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 564
  • Armor – 59
  • KB Defense – 25
  • Other Drops – Chitin, Ichor

Large Scorpions spawn all over the desert without a super specific spawn location. Small and medium scorpions do not give Exotic Flesh, so make sure the ones you take on are large if that’s what you are farming.

Shaleback King

Conan Exiles Shaleback King
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 8914
  • Armor – 65
  • KB Defense – 0
  • Other Drops – Bone, Chitin, Shaleback King Head, Thick Hide

Shaleback King is a large Shaleback boss that spawns at Lookout Point and Oasis of Nekhet. He does decent damage but can easily be dodged. If you don’t have trouble against normal Shalebacks, he’ll be a large piece of cake for you.

The Red Mother

  • HP – 18,717
  • Armor – 65
  • KB Defense – 1000
  • Other Drops – Brimstone, Demon Blood, Dragonbone, Dragonhorn, Red Dragon Head, Volatile Gland

The Red Mother is one of my favorite bosses in Conan Exiles. She is located in the Unnamed City and can drop one of many Legendary Items, such as the famous Reach of the Red Mother bow.

Be careful when you fight her because she can sunder, corrupt, and knock you down. She has tail swipes, fire breaths, and stomps. Some of her attacks are very quick, such as her bite.

Thunderfoot

Conan Exiles Thunderfoot
Image from Fandom
  • HP – 18,372
  • Armor – 84
  • KB Defense – 1000
  • Other Drops – Elephant Hide, Ivory, Skeleton Key, Thick Hide, Tusks

Thunderfoot is a large elephant that spawns south of Boundary Spillway. She fights just like any other elephant but is much larger and stronger, so she’s one of my least favorites to fight.

The Best Way to Get Exotic Flesh in Conan Exiles

I decide to separate one creature from the rest because I believe farming them is the fastest way to get Exotic Flesh. The Rhino always gives Exotic Flesh when harvested, each one from the small grey Rhino to the Rhino King.

I’ve listed their stats for easy access below, but they all have the same fighting mechanics. They have bad eyesight and do strong charge attacks. So head to Crowngrove or Rhinohorn Ridge and get to farming.

Grey Rhino

What to Make with Exotic Flesh in Conan Exiles

Conan Exiles Exotic Meat Guide

The primary use of Exotic Flesh is to make Roasted Haunch. But every single recipe with this meat is useful in some way, which can’t be said for other cooking recipes in this game.

Roasted Haunch

  • Hunger – 62
  • HP Regen – 6HP/3s
  • Expires – 45 minutes
  • Effects – Sated
  • Ingredients – Exotic Flesh

Good Investment? Yes. Simply cooking any mean is always a decent investment if you’re short on time. It also opens up more recipes. However, if you have the ingredients, I recommend making something else with Exotic Flesh.

Exotic Feast

  • Hunger – 147
  • HP Regen – 14HP/3s
  • Expires – 1 hour, 30 minutes
  • Effects – Sated, Strength Weapon Damage +15%, Warming Up
  • Ingredients – Exotic Flesh, Egg, Dried Berries

Good Investment? Absolutely! Exotic Feast is one of the best things you can make with Exotic Flesh. The stats are so good for players that it ranks as some of the best foods in the game.

Hearty Stew

Hearty Stew conan exiles
  • Hunger – 41
  • Thirst – 13
  • HP Regen – 4HP/3s
  • Expires – 1 hour, 30 minutes
  • Effects – Sated
  • Ingredients – Exotic Flesh, Soup

Good Investment? Not really. Hearty Stew is a wonderful food to make if you want to beef up your soup. Otherwise, it’s a waste because there are better ways to use both ingredients.

Honey Jerky

  • Hunger – 72
  • HP Regen – 7HP/3s
  • Expires – 1 hour, 30 minutes
  • Effects – Sated
  • Ingredients – Exotic Flesh, Honey, Salt

Good Investment? Yes. Because honey has few uses and salt is plentiful, it’s a good idea to make Honey Jerky to make your Exotic Flesh last longer and give you more hunger satiation.

Rhino Head Soup

Rhino Head Soup conan exiles
  • Hunger – 72
  • Thirst – 14
  • HP Regen – 7HP/3s
  • Expires – 1 hour, 30 minutes
  • Effects – Carrying Capacity +45, Sated
  • Ingredients – Black Rhino Head, Exotic Flesh, Soup

Good investment? Yes. Because you can use your Black Rhino Head for it, and it can help you get home with all the Obsidian you could ask for, I say that making Rhino Head Soup is a good way to use Exotic Flesh.

Spiced Haunch

  • Hunger – 79
  • HP Regen – 7HP/3s
  • Expires – 45 minutes
  • Effects – Sated, Warming Up
  • Ingredients – Exotic Flesh, Spice

Good Investment? Spiced Haunch is an excellent way to use Exotic Flesh. Spice is easy to make, so you can make it right before the meat spoils to extend the life and ensure you make it to the mountains without freezing.

Trail Jerky

  • Hunger – 70
  • HP Regen – HP/3s
  • Expires – 1 hour, 30 minutes
  • Effects – Armor +50, Sated
  • Ingredients – Exotic Flesh, Salt

Good Investment? If you are getting ready for a battle, yes. This gives you an extra 50 armor for an hour, which is one of the best armor buffs in the game. I recommend keeping some of this around.

Dragon Lure

  • Ingredients – Exotic Flesh, Alchemical Base, Twine, Sacred Blood

Dragon Lures are a Jhebbal Sag exclusive that his followers can make to draw in dragon creatures to fight, making it easy to grab dragon ingredients at any time. The investment is really all about your priorities, and I don’t recommend it, nor do I discourage it.

Raising Creatures with Exotic Flesh

Certain foods give certain baby animals a better chance of turning into Greater versions. Exotic Flesh is no exception. Raising creatures in the Animal Pen will also cause them to defecate, giving you about one Dung every 20 minutes when fed Exotic Flesh.

FAQs

Question: What is the Best Tool for Exotic Meat?

Answer: A cleaver is the best tool to harvest Exotic Flesh in Conan Exiles. You can use almost any weapon or tool but will waste a lot of time by not skipping to a high-tier cleaver.

Question: What is Exotic Fish in Conan Exiles?

Answer: Exotic Fish is an ingredient you can get by putting insects in a fish trap and trapping a fish. However, there’s at most a 30% chance you will attract an Exotic Fish instead of a Savory or Unappetizing one.

Question: What is the Best Meat in Conan Exiles?

Answer: The best meat in Conan Exiles is Exquisite Meat, which is easier to get than Exotic Flesh. This may be ironic, but it’s more like Exquisite meat is mutton whereas Exotic Flesh is more like large game meat.

Never Touching Exotic Flesh in Conan Exiles

It’s more than possible to never use Exotic Flesh or even gather it. Chances are you will get some passively using any tool on the above creatures that grant Exotic Flesh when you harvest them.

But I have gone through survival games, even Conan Exiles, and looked through my inventory after dozens of hours of playtime and realized there were certain ingredients I’d never seen. This is just by chance, and I was rarely affected by their absence. But in any game, I like to touch every item in that game, even if that means tearing apart a rhino to take its flesh home so I can drop some eggs and berries on it.
