Conan Exiles Rocknose Guide

Conan Exiles Rocknose Guide: His Whole Body is a Callous

A Conan Exiles Rocknose guide will help make use of this interesting stone creature. As much as I love Toph from Avatar: The Last Airbender, the earth element has never been my favorite.

Rocknoses never stood out to me, but when I discovered that there were different variants, it added a new element that intrigued me. This creature has depth and resources that prove beneficial to anyone on the Exiled Lands.

Just beware. Although the standard version of this creature is reasonably weak, you may be surprised at how strong certain variants are. They are hard to spot if you’re new and can completely ruin your session by taking you out when you’re expecting a weakling.

Learning to spot the differences via photo references can save your life. I’ve walked up to what I thought was a regular Rocknose only to find out that it had nearly ten times the health…that was a rude awakening.

Rocknose Overview – 60-Second Version

  • There are over a dozen types of Rocknoses.
  • You can get three different kinds of Rocknose pets, not including the Greater Variant.
  • Rocknoses can be harvested for stone and minerals, depending on the type of Rocknose.
  • Pickaxes are usually best for harvesting Rocknoses.
  • Gold-vein Rocknose pets are one of the best ways to farm gold
  • You can get a Rocknose pet by visiting Shawna the Strange at the Den and buying a Rocknose egg for 10 Gold Coins.

Types of Rocknose Creatures

Conan Exiles Rocknose Guide

There are many Rocknoses throughout the Exiled Lands. When I saw my first Rocknose, I assumed all Rocknoses would be the basic stone version. But when I saw those with gold streaks, I knew there was more to this creature than meets the eye. There isn’t another creature with more variants than this one.

Standard Rocknose

  • HP – 346
  • Armor – 40
  • KB Defense – 80
  • Biome – Desert
  • Drop – Brimstone, Crystal, Rocknose Head, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Both

The basic Rocknose is one of the strongest. Its aggro range is long, and it has high HP for a desert creature. Most of the other Rocknoses have half the health that this one has so don’t underestimate it.

Black Ice Rocknose

  • HP – 159
  • Biome – Snow
  • Drop – Black Ice, Ice, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Wild

Black Ice Rocknoses wander around the Frost Temple and similar areas. If you can’t find Black Ice nodes, you can harvest them for it. Their HP is low is taking them down is easy.

Brimstone Rocknose

Brimstone rocknose conan exiles
  • HP – 197
  • Biome – Desert
  • Drop – Brimstone, Rocknose Head, Salt, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Wild

If you want Brimstone and aren’t near the river, Shattered Springs has a ton of Brimstone Rocknoses that will give you the stone and salt. I used to get salt this way before I realized I could make a grinder to grind stone.

Coal Rocknose

Coal rocknose conan exiles
  • HP – 159
  • Biome – Desert
  • Drop – Coal, Ironstone, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Wild

I’ve never had trouble getting coal or iron, but if you do, farming the Rocknoses near Thugra’s Stand will grant you some. You can recognize these Rocknose by their dark bodies, red veins, and glowing red eyes.

Crystal Rocknose

Crystal rocknose conan exiles
  • HP – 159
  • Biome – Desert
  • Drop – Crystal, Rocknose Head, Salt, Stone
  • Wild or Pet

Crystal Rocknoses hang out at Shattered Springs along with the Brimstone versions. These Rocknoses are white and give Crystals. Unless you want to go in caves, farming Rocknoses is the only way to get Crystal.

Gold-vein Rocknose

  • Starting HP –  200
  • Starting Damage – 14
  • Starting Armor – 4700
  • Acquisition – Mix Pebblenose baby with gold items in pens.
  • Drop – Coal, Goldstone, Ironstone, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Pet

This is the Rocknose everyone is talking about. To get one, you have to put a baby Rocknose and Gold Dust, Goldstone, or Shadepsiced Gold into a pen and there’s a 10-26% chance you’ll get one.

When you have one in a pen afterward, there’s a 5% chance it will give you Goldstone regularly. Otherwise, it gives you iron or stone. This is one of the best ways to farm gold passively.

Ice Rocknose

  • HP – 159
  • Biome – Snow
  • Drop – Black Ice, Ice, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Wild

The Ice Rocknose is nearly identical to the Black Ice one. The difference is that it gives you less Black Ice and more regular ice. They hang out around Skyfall Ridge, but I don’t see a reason to farm this one because ice is so common and melts.

Ironstone Rocknose

Ironstone rocknose conan exiles
  • HP – 159
  • Biome – Desert, Tundra
  • Drop – Coal, Ironstone, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Wild

The Ironstone Rocknose is good to farm while you’re at Godsclaw Passage. But then again, there’s so much Ironstone in the wild at Godsclaw Passage that the rocknose makes up only a fraction of the iron source there.

Moss Rocknose

I’ve never seen a Moss Rocknose in the wild, but I hear they exist. When harvested, they give you the same things that the Ironstone Rocknose gives you. If you see one of these, you’ve seen one elusive creature.

Obsidian Rocknose

Obsidian rocknose conan exiles
  • HP – 159
  • Biome – Volcano
  • Drop – Obsidian, Raw Ash, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Wild

The Obsidian Rocknose is common in the Volcano but doesn’t appear otherwise. Because of this, the harvesting factor isn’t all that useful as the Volcano is littered with Obsidian.

Silver-vein Rocknose

  • Starting HP –  200
  • Starting Damage – 0
  • Starting Armor – 4700
  • Acquisition – Mix Pebblenose baby with silver items in pens.
  • Drop – Coal, Ironstone, Silverstone, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Both

Aside from the standard, the Silver-vein Rocknose is the only one that is both a pet and found in the wild. In the wild, it can be found at The Jawbone. The process is the same as the gold rocknose.

If you’re wondering why you’d ever want silver instead of gold, the answer is you wouldn’t. But silver isn’t just a currency. It’s the only way to make a Transportory Stone or Alchemical Base (super important at times.)

Corrupted Rocknose

Corrupted rocknose conan exiles
  • HP – 2078
  • Armor – 65
  • KB Defense – 80
  • Biome – Desert
  • Drop – Advanced Armor Patch Kit, Advanced Weapon Repair Kit, Alchemical Base, Brimstone, Coal, Crystal, Demon Blood, Glowing Essence, Goldstone, Ichor, Ironstone, Oil, Rocknose Head, Shadebloom, Silverstone, Steelfire, Stone
  • Wild or Pet – Wild

There’s a 2% chance that instead of a regular Rocknose spawning, an Elite version does. This Rocknose is called the Corrupted Rocknose and is practically a boss. It inflicts poison and bleeds, making it a deadly opponent early on.

The bleed attack is 360, so it’s difficult to dodge. The poison is a breath attack, so you can just get behind the Rocknose, but since the breath attack stays for a minute, dodging is still no easy task.

Greater Rocknose

Greater rocknose conan exiles
  • Starting HP –  1641
  • Starting Damage – 0
  • Starting Armor – 124
  • Acquisition – Mix Pebblenose baby with crystal, stone, or iron
  • Wild or Pet – Pet

There’s a 1-26% chance that you’ll get a Greater Rocknose when your Pebblenose grows up. Six items can grant you one, with Shadepsiced Iron Ore giving the highest chance and stone giving the lowest.

If you end up with a Greater Rocknose, congrats because this is a decent pet to have around. It’s no Sabretooth, but because it’s tanky and non-agile, I recommend keeping one to guard the base.

How to Get a Rocknose Pet

Baby Rocknoses do not spawn in the wild. To get one, you have to buy an egg from Shawna the Strange at The Den for 10 Gold Coins. The egg must hatch in your inventory or a Compost Heap. Then you can raise it in a pen with the food you want for it to grow into the type of Rocknose you want.

  1. Go to The Den – central E-8
  2. Find Shawna the Strange – on scaffolding overlooking the camp (nearby NPCs are aggressive but she is not)
  3. Buy Egg – 10 Gold Coins (if you’re having trouble getting coins before your first Rocknose, I suggest heading to Buccaneer Bay to farm a ton via chests or farm Obsidian at the Volcano to get it passively)
  4. Expire Egg – in inventory for a day or Compost Heap in an hour
  5. Put Pebblenose in Pen with food
  6. Wait

Types of Rocknose Bosses

Rocknose boss conan exiles

There are a few Rocknose bosses in the game. Not all of them look like Rocknoses, but they are nevertheless categorized as such. If you have a Greater Rocknose, then you’re familiar with their shape and playstyle.

Living Magma

  • HP – 750
  • Armor – 73
  • KB Defense – 1500
  • Drops – Brimstone, Crystal, Demon Blood, King Rocknose Head, Raw Ash, Stone
  • Location – Well of Skelos

Living Magma is the only Rocknose “boss” that is considered a boss. He’s also the weakest by far, so that boss title doesn’t mean much. He is a glowing red Rocknose boss that hangs out around the volcano.

Living Mountain

  • HP – 1731
  • Armor – 55
  • KB Defense – 1500
  • Drops – Brimstone, Crystal, Demon Blood, King Rocknose Head, Stone
  • Location – Spotter’s Squat

Living Mountain is a demon found at Spotter’s Squat. He’s a mini-boss and the only one aside from Living Magma that drops the King Rocknose Head that you can mount on your wall.

Avalanche

  • HP – 2078
  • Armor – 65
  • KB Defense – 1500
  • Drops – Black Ice, Ice, Stone
  • Location – Icespire Chasm

Avalanche is a strong, ice-based Rocknose that can be found at Icespuire Chasm. He doesn’t drop anything special, but there’s quite a bit of Black Ice on him, and fighting him is easier than running most of the time.

Rockslide

  • HP – 4844
  • Armor – 72
  • KB Defense – 1500
  • Drops – Brimstone, Demon Blood, Skeleton Key, Stone
  • Location – Fingerfang Rock, The Claws, The Barrens, Siptah’s Contemplation, The Triune Grave

Rockslide is by far the strongest and most famous Rocknose boss. He’s a Legendary Creature that drops a Skeleton Key, though he doesn’t always guard a Legendary Chest. When compared to other Rocknoses, he’s a beast. When compared to other Legendary Creatures, he’s a weak one.

Rocknose Unique Items

  • Gold-vein Rocknose Carcass – if you let your Gold-vein Rocknose expire, it will turn into this, which can be put in the Fluid Press for Goldstone.
  • King Rocknose Head – gotten from Rocknose Kings and turned into a trophy.
  • King Rocknose Head Trophy – can be mounted on the wall.
  • Rocknose Carcass – if you let your Rocknose expire, it will turn into this, which you can put in the Fluid Press for Brimstone.
  • Rocknose Head – gotten from many Rocknose.
  • Rocknose Head Trophy – can be mounted on the wall.
  • Rocknose Lure – made at Retreat of JhebbalSag; attracts nearby creatures.
  • Silver-vein Rocknose Carcass – if you let your Silver-vein Rocknose expire, it will turn into this, which can be put in the Fluid Press for Silverstone.

FAQs

Question: Is the Rocknose a Good Pet?

Answer: The regular Rockose pet is decent, but the Greater one is really good. The defense and HP alone make it a deadly guardian for your base or to follow you around. But its damage output isn’t on par with other smaller pets.

Question: Can You Make Rocknose Pets Stronger?

Answer: The food you feed your pet affects how they level. Feed them Silverstone for a better chance of Agility bonuses, Goldstone or Irosntone for Vitality, and Stone for Strength. For Grit, use Crystal. These chances change with Gold and Silver variants.

Question: Are Rocknoses Strong in the Wild?

Answer: Not really. You can take on a standard Rocknose super early in the game. They are relatively weak and easy to dodge, though they have higher HP than certain variants. Other variants have unique 360 attacks, but unless it’s a “boss” version or Corrupted Rocknose, you’ll do fine against most of them.

Rocknose in the Exiled Lands

The Rocknose pet is a good addition to the game, and the wild versions grant minerals when harvested. All-around, the Rocknose is a positive note to Conan Exiles and I see no negatives. They’re well-rounded and are more than just a nuisance.

Rocknose are a unique creature to Conan Exiles. While many other creatures are based on something that was obviously stolen from another game, the Rocknose isn’t one I’ve seen anywhere else.

While golems have been in lore for ages, I like the spin that Conan Exiles put on them. They are more like rock dogs, which I haven’t seen often. I applaud the effort that the developers put into making a diverse creature that has a lot of potential for even more growth in the future. Did somebody stay Eldarium-vein Rocknose?
